National Assembly

A community group in Ogun State, Ketu Advancement Forum, has appealed to the National Assembly for support in the swift consideration and passage of the bill proposing the establishment of the Federal College of Geological and Cement Studies in Yewa North area of the state.

A letter of appreciation, addressed to the representative of Ogun West Senatorial Constituency and sponsor of the bill, Senator Solomon Adeola, was signed by Kunle Abiose, Coordinator-General, and Dotun Adeleye, Secretary-General, on Wednesday.

The group expressed gratitude to the lawmaker for sponsoring the bill, which recently passed its first reading in the Senate while emphasising the potential of the college to contribute to the state and country’s industrialisation, providing relevant skills for youths in the labour market.

“We particularly commend your focus on the promotion of the next generation of human capital that will take up the challenge of industrialisation of Ogun State and Nigeria, as well as support the government’s drive for the diversification of the nation’s economy through the establishment of the College.

“We did not only find your legislative acumen in this regard highly commendable but also inspiring to our younger generations who are daily yearning for relevant skills that will give them a head start in the ever-dynamic labour market locally and internationally,” it said.

The community group highlighted the significance of the college in Iselu and Ketuland, known for having one of the largest limestone deposits in Nigeria and urged Adeola to use his legislative influence to garner support for the bill’s speedy passage and the establishment of the college.

It added, “It is on this note that we like to fervently urge you to deploy all your legislative sagacity at mobilising members of both Chambers of the National Assembly to kindly support the speedy passage of the bill and the establishment of the college.”

The Lagos State Police Command, on Tuesday night, announced it had taken into custody controversial singer Azeez Fashola, alias Naira Marley, in connection with the controversial death of his former record label signee, Ilerioluwa Aloba, alias Mohbad.

The Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, said, “Azeez Fashola, aka Naira Marley, has been taken into custody for interrogation and other investigation activities.”

Earlier in a tweet on Tuesday night, Naira Marley announced his arrival in Lagos to assist in the ongoing probe into Mohbad’death, while noting that he would be meeting with the police.

He said, “I’d like to share that I’ve just arrived back in Lagos, Nigeria to assist the authorities with the ongoing investigation. It’s important I do my part for Imole.

“I’ll be meeting with the police with hopes for the truth to be uncovered and for justice to prevail.”

The PUNCH reports that MohBad died on September 12 at age 27.

The police had earlier invited Naira Marley and controversial music promoter, Balongun Eletu, aka Sam Larry (now in police custody), for questioning over Mohbad’s demise.

The police, last week, also confirmed that pathologists had concluded the autopsy conducted on Mohbad, while the police await the result.

In an exclusive interview with our correspondent, the police spokesman said, “Autopsy has been concluded. Awaiting results.” This development followed the exhumation of Mohbad by a combined team of the Nigeria Police Force and health officials.

The PUNCH reports that the police had also arrested the nurse who reportedly injected the deceased singer prior to his demise on Tuesday, September 12.

A coroner’s inquest into Mohbad’s death started at the Lagos State Magistrate’s Court in Ikorodu last Friday.
